Tiger AirwaysOverall Rating
If you are looking for a holiday tip that will you save you money - here it is - Fly Tiger Airways.

We have traveled with Tiger twice since they launched in Melbourne last October. Our first flight was a round trip to Adelaide that cost a total of $72.00! That’s not $72.00 each that’s $72.00 total for two adults and two children! How could you not love those prices! Our second trip was a return trip to Canberra costing a total of $162.80 for two people. Not as cheap as the Adelaide fares, but still very good value for money.

What about the service?
OK, there’s no question the prices are cheap - and if you pick up one of their specials - downright amazing! But what about the service? Are they reliable? Is the service lacking? All good questions. We have heard a lot of negatives, as I am sure you have. Our review is based on our experience, not on what you hear in the media. We were very happy with the service provided by Tiger. Checking in at Tullamarine was a breeze. We didn’t have to queue and had our boarding passes in under 10 minutes on both occasions. The planes are new, clean, comfortable and the aircrew were friendly and attentive. A note on the comfort factor - I am 6′3 tall and my knees just touch the back of the seat in front. However, it is bearable and given that the flights I have taken so far have been all over in an hour, it’s not a problem. Considering my return flight to Adelaide only cost me $18 total, I couldn’t care less if it was a bit squishy.

Once in the air the service is as good as we have received with any other airline. As you would expect, you pay for food and there is no in-flight entertainment. There is a free magazine to read - “Tiger Tales” - a quality publication. Well written and beautifully art directed by Tan Kok Leong.
Tiger Tales Magazine The return flights to Melbourne were both delayed. The return flight to Melbourne from Adelaide was delayed by just over an hour and the flight from Canberra by about two hours. Not sure why the flight from Adelaide was delayed, but the Canberra - Melbourne return was delayed because the ticketing system had gone down and boarding passes had to be issued manually. On both occasions we were unphased as we were in no hurry to get home. The Tiger staff handled the situation very well. Their honesty about the situation was refreshing! When we boarded the Canberra - Melbourne return flight the Cabin Manager in his welcome to the passengers said, “Welcome aboard, we are sorry for the delay and we are sure we have ruined the day for some of you. But we hope it won’t ruin our reputation in you eyes.” We loved it! It was the first time I have heard such an honest acknowledgment for a delay!

Overall we give Tiger our highest rating - we love it!
Sure, there may be times when you experience delays, however, based on our experience the benefits in cost savings and quality of service far out way the negatives.
